Cavani moved atop of scorers list on 17 goals with his latest heroics, two clear of Udinese's Antonio Di Natale. Slovak Marek Hamsik scored the other goal for Napoli.
Inter Milan striker Giampaolo Pazzini also shone in his debut with a brace as he helped the champions rally to a 3-2 defeat of Palermo.
Captain Fabrizio Miccoli and Antonio Nocerino gave Palermo a 2-0 lead and Argentine Javier Pastore missed a third when he was denied by the woodwork.
Pazzini came on at halftime and halved the deficit in the 57th and goalkeeper Julio cesar kept Inter in the game when he saved a penalty from Pastore.
