FACTBOX- Uruguayan Luis Suarez

Factbox on Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez who is expected to join English Premier League team Liverpool from Ajax Amsterdam after the clubs agreed a fee on Friday:

Born Jan. 24, 1987, Salto, Uruguay



EARLY CAREER

* Joined the junior ranks at Montevideo-based Nacional aged 11.

* Won the league title during his debut season in the Nacional first team in 2005-06.

* Sold to Dutch side Groningen in 2006 for 800,000 euros. Scored 10 goals in 29 games in his first season in Eredivisie.



AJAX AMSTERDAM

* Signed for Ajax in 2007 for 7.5 million euros. Scored on his league debut in an 8-1 away victory against De Graafschap and twice on his home debut against SC Heerenveen.

* Became club captain in 2009 under manager Martin Jol after former skipper Thomas Vermaelen signed for Arsenal.

* In Dec. 2009, Suarez scored six goals as Ajax thrashed amateurs WHC Wezep in a Dutch Cup fourth-round fixture.

* Finished 2009-10 season with 35 goals in 33 league games, 48 goals in all competitions, and was named Dutch Footballer of the Year.

* Received seven-match domestic ban for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal on the shoulder in a league match in Nov. 2010.



INTERNATIONAL

* Made international debut on Feb. 8, 2007, in a 3-1 win against Colombia, but was sent off late in the game after receiving a second yellow card for dissent.

* Has scored 16 goals in 38 internationals to date.



2010 WORLD CUP

* Named in Oscar Tabarez's squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after Uruguay finished fifth in the South American qualifying group but beat Costa Rica 2-1 in a play-off.

* Scored winning goal in final group game against Mexico as Uruguay topped Group A.

* Scored twice as Uruguay beat South Korea 2-1 in second round to qualify for a quarter-final spot.

* Sent off late in extra time for handling on the line with the score 1-1 in the quarter-final against Ghana. Suarez's blatant two-handed save prevented a winning goal for the Black Stars. Asamoah Gyan missed the resulting penalty and Uruguay went on to win 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out.

* Uruguay lost semi-final 3-2 to the Netherlands with Suarez suspended.



LIVERPOOL

* 18-times English champions Liverpool agree 26.5-million-euro fee to bring Suarez to Anfield, Jan. 28, 2011.
