Roma win at Juve, clinch Italian Cup semis

Prodigious drives from Mirko Vucinic and Rodrigo Taddei on Thursday helped Roma secure the Italian Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win over hosting Juventus.

Montenegro striker Vucinic put Roma ahead in the second half with a classy swerving shot past Marco Storari before Taddei's late volley.

The first half had little to offer to the fans at the Stadio Olimpico, where both sides played at a fast pace, but often lacked precision and valid offensive schemes.

Nicolas Cambiasso missed a header before Vucinic forced a save from Storari, while home captain Alessandro Del Piero had a fast drive deflected by a defender's back.

After break Luigi Del Neri brought on Milos Krasic for an indifferent Amauri to gain speed on the right flank and had to replace the injured Simone Pepe with striker Vincenzo Iaquinta.

Juve improved their tempo, but not the quality of their attacks and fell behind when Daniele De Rossi on 65 minutes fed Vucinic on the left flank for his textbook shot by the far post.

Roma came close three minutes when Storari saved a header from defender Philippe Mexes and ran minor risks in the final pulsating minutes of the game.

In injury time, another deep feed from De Rossi sent Brazil substitute Taddei past a static defence for an elegant volley past a helpless Storari.

Roma are to tackle cup holders Inter Milan, who this week eliminated Napoli on penalties.

AC Milan qualified through a 2-1 win over Sampdoria and will meet Palermo, who beat Parma in a penalty shoot-out.

The two-leg semi-finals are set for April 20 and May 11, with the final for May 29 in Rome.
