The senior Ukrainian official responsible for Euro 2012 preparations suffered a heart attack on Monday, a spokesman said.
Borys Kolesnykov, head of the Agency for Euro 2012, was in stable condition and talking with doctors in a Kiev hospital after an operation, said spokesman Yury Grominitsky.
Kolesnykov had been scheduled to travel to Brussels on Tuesday to brief EU officials on Ukraine's readiness to host its share of the competition in a presentation to the European parliament.
Siim Kallas, European Commission vice president in charge of transport, had been scheduled to meet Kolsnykov for talks on possible EU financial Assistance.
Kolesnykov would be back on the job "in two to three weeks," according to a Unian news agency report.
Ukraine's attempt to get ready for Euro 2012 has been spotty, with most of the stadiums either ready or under intense construction but the former Soviet republic's transportation network remaining well below international standards.
Kolesnykov reportedly is one of Ukraine's most powerful businessman and a close political ally of President Viktor Yanukovych.
