Beaten-up Murray hints he may not be ready for Rotterdam return

Devastated Australian Open finalist Andy Murray might be preparing to pull the plug on his next round of tournaments, hinting that he could feel the need to take time away from the game.

For the second year in succession, the fifth seed lost at Melbourne, going down at the weekend to Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.

The AMN-AMRO indoor event in Rotterdam is next on the Murray calendar starting Monday, followed by Dubai. But Murray has thrown up doubts as to his immediate willingness to jump back into the ATP tennis wars.

"I don't know, I might not play for a few months. I might feel like playing in a week's time," he told local media in Melbourne.

"I don't have to play until Indian Wells and Miami (in March). If I am enjoying myself back home then I won't start training again, because last year I went through the motions a bit and that is not the way to move forward."

With his girlfriend back in his Surrey mansion near London after the pair split but were reunited, Murray could be loathe to leave Britain. "I want to spend time with my girlfriend, chill out and get away from the court."

"I'm looking forward to spending time at home. I'm looking forward to getting back to seeing friends, family, my dog," he said. "Tennis is obviously a lot of fun and I'm very lucky to be playing it, but I enjoy the other parts of life as well."

Murray quit before the start in Rotterdam a year ago after losing the Australian final to Roger Federer, then lasted for only two matches in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Djokovic is riding high after winning his second Australian title in four editions.

"This is the moment I reached the peak of my form and play the tennis of my life," he said. "My lifetime goal is to be number one player in the world. I've have been dreaming about that since I was a kid. I have to have the belief in myself and dedication to the sport to do this."

The number three - with just a handful of computer points separating him from Roger Federer - then laid down his next marker: "My other goal is to win other Grand Slams. The most prestigious, and the one that motivated me to become a tennis player, is Wimbledon."

Nadal now has pressure building with the clay season only a few months away and title defenses looming at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.
