Despite Aris maintaining unbeaten run, City in driving seat

Greek club Aris Thessaloniki on Tuesday maintained their astonishing unbeaten run at home in European football when they held Manchester City to a goalless draw in a first round Europa League round of 32 match.

Since playing their first UEFA-organized European match in the Kleanthis-Vikelidis-Stadium against Chelsea 40 years ago, Aris have remained unbeaten in 24 games.

The Premier League side's best chance to win the game was a header from Edin Dzeko midway through the second half that was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Michalis Sifakis, who palmed the ball over the crossbar for a corner.

Although the visitors had more of the game they did not create many chances, but then neither did Aris, who came close just once in the second half when goalkeeper Joe Hart saved from a long-range Neto effort.

City will be looking to find the goals they need to advance to the quarter-finals in the return leg next week.

The remaining 15 first leg matches will be played on Thursday.
