Inter Milan win without shining at minnows Bari

Wesley Sneijder and newcomers Houssine Kharja and Giampaolo Pazzini were on target for Inter Milan as the Serie A champions won 3-0 but failed to impress Thursday at bottom side Bari.

The Nerazzurri are now seven points from leaders AC Milan, who drew 0-0 on Tuesday at home to third-place Lazio as they opened a mid-week round.

Inter can further reduce their deficit with a game in hand against Fiorentina on February 16.

The southern Italy hosts hardly looked like a tail-ender side and played a brisk first half before their home crowd at the San Nicola stadium.

Their only telling chance, however, was a free kick by Argentine Sergio Almiron, who on 10 minutes watched Julio Cesar fly and deflect his swerving drive from under the bar.

Inter produced little before the break despite the presence upfront of stars Diego Milito, Samuel Eto'o and Pazzini, who scored a brace as he debuted at the weekend.

Brazil defender Douglas Maicon was the only one to threaten Jean- Francois Gillet with a central drive, and totally missed another effort.

There was more grit from Inter after the break, with the recovering Dutch playmaker Sneijder coming on for an indifferent Milito to add speed up front.

Cameroon star Eto'o had his say in Kahrja's goal on 70 minutes, when he stormed on the left flank and set up the Moroccan midfielder for a deadly shot under the body of Gillet.

Julio Sergio made a good deflection on a fast volley by Alessandro Gazzi, who then fired feebly from a good position before Pazzini and Sneijder scored in injury time.

Inter were the only one of the top teams to win in a mid-week round that saw second-place Napoli crash 2-0 at Chievo and Roma draw 1-1 at home with lowly Brescia.
