(Reuters) - New Zealand spin bowler Nathan McCullum has been admitted to hospital due to a high fever and is still under observation there, a team spokesman said on Friday.
The cricketer's condition was not serious and he is scheduled to be discharged on Saturday after being taken to a hospital in Chennai late on Thursday.
"He was feeling unwell and was running a very high temperature. We decided to admit him and he has been kept under observation," the spokesman said on Friday.
"He is scheduled to be discharged tomorrow (Saturday) morning and is recovering well."
McCullum, 30, elder brother to Kiwi wicketkeeper/batsman Brendon, will have a race against time to get fit for New Zealand's World Cup opener against Kenya on Sunday in Chennai.
"His availability for Sunday's match will be decided later. I can't comment on that," the spokesman said.
McCullum, who has played just 19 one-day internationals, was part of the New Zealand team in both their practice matches against Ireland and India, ahead of the Feb 19-April 2 World Cup.
