Hamburg say no Real deal on Van Nistelrooy

SV Hamburg have told Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will definitely not be returning to the Spanish club.

Chairman Bernd Hoffmann said on Hamburg's website that Real had made an offer of 2 million euros (2.7 million dollars) plus a friendly match for SV Hamburg's 125th anniversary.

But Hoffmann said Hamburg had again "and for the last time" rejected the offer.

"We have informed the player and adviser of our decision. We want to do everything to reach an international place (in European competition next season) and that is why it is unthinkable at the present time to release Ruud van Nistelrooy," he said.

The 34-year-old Dutch striker, who joined Hamburg from Madrid a year ago, had indicated he would like to return to Real who are looking for a short-term replacement for the injured Gonzalo Higuain.

Hamburg are sixth in the Bundesliga, 17 points behind leader Borussia Dortmund.
