Shakhtar Donetsk facts and figures


Facts and figures regarding Shakhtar Donetsk who meet AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 match in Rome on Wednesday:



* Shakhtar Donetsk have not played any official matches since Dec. 8 when they defeated Sporting Braga 2-0 to win their Champions League group and progress to the last 16.



* The Ukraine League shut down for its winter break at the end of November and re-starts on March 5. During the break, Shakhtar have kept busy playing nine friendlies, winning four of them.



* Their heaviest defeat came at the Dubai Cup where they lost 5-2 to Slovak league leaders MSK Zilina, sparking a wave of criticism over their performance back in Ukraine.



* Influential Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho is back in action after recovering from a broken leg. Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar's Romanian coach, expects Fernandinho to be fully fit for the second leg against Roma in Donetsk on March 8.



* Lucescu has also confirmed that left back Vasyl Kobin will miss the first leg against Roma because of a damaged Achilles tendon while Taras Stepanenko is a doubt because of a knee injury.



* Shakhtar were quiet in the winter transfer window with Lucescu making no new additions to the squad.
