Bayern Munich captain Mark van Bommel is to move to AC Milan, the Bundesliga champions confirmed Tuesday.
Bayern have agreed to release the 33-year-old midfielder immediately from his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement that the club had agreed to Van Bommel's request for a move.
"Mark was always an exemplary professional, and an important and successful player for Bayern and in addition was an excellent captain," he said.
"In view of his services to the club we have agreed to Mark's wish."
Van Bommel joined Bayern from Barcelona in 2006 and played 123 Bundesliga games. He was twice league winner and twice a cup winner with the Bavarians.
